FLINT, MI — Legislation to create a Flint Promise Zone has been passed by the Michigan House Education Reform Committee, another step in a new effort to help send more Flint students to college.
The bill, sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D-Flint, is headed to the full state House of Representatives after committee approval Thursday, Oct. 5.
“I told the students in my city that we were going to get this done for them, and we’re almost there,” Ananich said in a statement released by his office. “I ask the House to move on this with urgency, since it should go without saying that the kids in Flint deserve the opportunity to jump-start their education.”
